Irish Bloomery Iron Limited is a company dedicated to making Iron in the iron aged method.

We smelt iron in the traditional method. This involves building a clay furnace, supplying air with leather bellows, adding layers of charcoal and bog ore until an iron bloom forms at the heart of the furnace. We then extract the iron bloom and work it on an anvil over a period of a few hours, stretching and folding it until it is a useable bar which can then be forged into iron objects.

At the end of August every year we host The Caherconnell Furnace Festival. At the festival, Iron smelters from all over the world share their skills and knowledge with each-other.

Students work together to build a furnace, smelt iron and forge their iron into a meaningful piece they can bring home.
